Conducive Hospitality/Corporate environment

As a Night Manager at Standard Bank's accommodation & conference facility, my responsibilities include ensuring that all public areas & conference facilities are maintained appropriately. Guests are assisted with requests & ensuring that their comfort & safety are catered for. Other administration duties must be completed in order to have all systems ready for the next day's operation. Detailed reports compiled so that day shift co-workers are informed of outstanding issues. I have learnt to communicate accurately with various departments eliminating misunderstanding. To achieve this, I have recognized that we are different as individuals, an approach might be acceptable for a particular individual but may not for another. It is a challenge to be tactful for different situations in a diverse environment. I enjoy working with people & performing efficiently & should I not meet expectations then I am curious to discover where I failed. I find this continual self evaluation, invigorating.

Brilliant exposure, high-paced environment

We are the RPO based in Absa Towers. We act as internal volume recruiters for Absa hiring the entry to middle management roles. My main portfolio is Corporate Banking which has the smallest population but is the second profit generator for Absa. This demanding is known to be challenging at times & I am the only consultant that the business unit will deal with. I advertise roles internally, externally with candidate sourcing, shortlist, conduct pre-interview vetting with shortlisted candidates and arrange the client meeting with their panel. Once a candidate has been chosen we begin the salary negotiations. I act as a buffer between the candidate and hiring manager to streamline the conversation and work for a win-win to do right by the business and the employee. This has it's levels of approvals which I handle personally and then generate the contract for the candidate to review and accept. I have a target of 30 hires a month and I have an administrator who reports directly to me.

There is a lack of growth opportunities for Researchers within the business

The company has a great work environment with pleasant people. The issue is that there are limited opportunities for growth as a Researcher. I feel I am stagnating as the scope of the work we do is limited

Excellent learning curve

Tough learning year

It hasn't been busy because of working from home and people getting retrenched due to Covid, but I have managed to learnt a lot in terms of recruitment and the industry.

Diligent and Friendly person

I work in a very fast paced recruitment environment. Everyday is a different day and that is what I love about HR. We do the recruiting for various departments within Absa. Due to the recruitment various relationships are formed and because we are external and offer Recruitment as a service we uphold a very professional standard to our clients. The most challenging thing about my work if that you cannot win them all meaning some situations are completely out of one's control as the decision lies with the Hiring Manager to eg extend an excellent candidates contract or place them permanently.

Opportunity for growth

MY normal working day is quite busy, i have a lot of reports i compile daily, interact with internal clients. I work with an awesome team in total there is 4 of us I have learnt to manage my time better and be more flexible I enjoy working with figures, finding solutions and the fulfilling feeling of meeting deadlines and providing high quality professional work Adjusting to changes brought by clients when they have had a change of heart from what was initially agreed on
