Problem solving

I have a number of labs that I have to keep running as they are needed for students and staff. We can’t afford to have machines standing so fault finding and fixing is high priority. I get requests from staff to design and build a machine or get handed a picture of an instrument and then have to build it. Different machines and instruments have different service intervals so a service schedule is very important.

Pros: Good place to work for.
Cons: People are clikky.

No two days are the same

I hAve been in my current role for the past 18 months and it has been a good fit with my career aspirations. I've managed a team of about 30 strong staff in what I'll refer to as a varied finance environment. Working at executive level as exposed me to a combination of working strategically, operationally, technically and tactically with problem solving and decision making being key to daily outcomes. I am however looking to a more permanent role as this current role is a contract role, hence my keenness to move onto the role above, seeming to also offer an exciting opportunity to add value.

Excellent working environment

Because I would juggle school and work a typical day at work would be working at the office between class. My co-workers were friendly but my relationship was solely between my boss and i as i was a student assistant. Ive learned a-lot about admin and working in the office. My communication skills get better by the day as well as my computer literacy. What i enjoyed the most was the environment on its own. I believe that a healthy environment brings out great results

A lot to learn

lecturing administration meetings consultations good relationship with coworkers- spent time with them, learn from them, help each other have work functions, team building, year end function i have learned that you have to keep reading in order to stay informed. i enjoy more spare time, being able to spent time with my kids, take them to school and attend all their meetings and doctors appointments the challenging part is keeping up to date with the changing world and also the fact that you have to keep studying and doing research in order to stay relevant.
