General manager

I work in a high pressure environment. Daily planning and reporting for various projects around the country. I manage projects from R30 to R1billion. My current Clients are Eskom, Sasol, JRA and SANRAL. I have experience in commercial, contractual, operations, business development and procurement. I deal with drafting of contracts, compliance in the corporate environment, tenders and most important people (internal and external). I enjoy an environment that has skilled people and work as a genuine team. Leadership is important as it directs the culture of the business.

Pros: Changing environment and dealing with people from the highest level to the lowest level in the company.
Cons: no work life balance as the work activities change on a daily basis and i have to travel on call.

Good Exposure on the Engineering field

This Job it gives me a good working exposure with customers and how to liaison with customers on a daily basis. I learn new things everyday in the Engineering field, so that for me is good for my career.

Great learning environment

The business has been under a lot of pressure and losing market share resulting 2 retrenchments in the last 3 years. This has began to be unsettling hence the need for me to move. Such challenges have produced a team that demonstrated commitment and endurance under difficult circumstances. Other than the impressive progress with regard to transformation, working for the company is no longer stimulating for me. The factory next to ours produces smoke fumes on a deadly basis and tho has become unbearable.

Current role and Responsibility

Managing operational staff and also attending boards meetings for 4 companies. Spend most of my time between operational and strategic issues. Operational covers: facilities management, property/ leasing management, supplier management, project management, disposals of properties, acquisitions of properties. Strategic covers: strategic plans/ directions for the 4 companies which I seat on the boards. Attendance of all boards meetings and the subcommittee meetings i.e AGM, Remco, etc

Pros: seating on 4 boards for the organisation
Cons: Company selling off all non core assets

Excellent learning curve

Good day I am a good senior foreman. Earthworks layerwork and drainage. Have being on some of the biggest projects is South Africa and in Africa and west Africa. Hard working always meet my deadlines and targets. Strong leader and mentor to my teams.

Humble, trustworthy, innovative, teamplayer

Assisting the IT team with general queries on a daily basis. Assisting the senior management with innovative ideas and how it can be implemented. More a hands on person, than sitting back and waiting for things to happen. I like to wake up in the mornings and know everything is fine at the office - being proactive. Challenging aspect of the day is to be an IT operations manager and play the role of HR with internal staff having problems with one another. Enjoy most when a project have been completed and where we can celebrate it.

Pros: Time to leave as I have hit the ceiling in this specific devision.
