Former President of South Africa, the late Nelson Mandela granted ten South African students to undergo training at Deustche Bank (Singapore branch) and I was elected as one of them. Eskom Holdings Corporate Division Managing Director awarded me with an award for excellent performance in being a Legal Advisor for a project responsible for the restructuring of the electricity industry and creation of Electricity Distribution Industry Holdings (EDI Holdings).

A continuously changing environment
A typical week includes preparing briefing notes on the status of projects, preparing business cases and attending reporting and production meetings. Relationships range from professional to friendships. Maintaining good relationships across the business is integral for performing tasks as projects are very integrated by nature. This is my first job so I have learnt numerous skills. The softer skills are structured communication, business planning, problem solving, systems thinking, agility – adaptive to a changing environment and driving cost reduction and efficiency improvement. The more job specific skills are strategy development, policy analysis, negotiations, stakeholder engagement and procurement of strategic commodities. The most enjoyable aspects are the complexity due to the many reporting structures and dynamics of suppliers and customers. The impact that the role has on the country. The most challenging aspect is the continuously changing objectives that need to be achieved,
