Continue learning

I came to shell in 2014 as Learner doing leanership of Admin Level 2, I was working at HR doing HR support. I work Monday - Friday from 08:00AM -16:00PM. I was reporting to Shell HR Country Manager. I was supporting my team with all they want to do E.G. Filing , Arrange meeting, Arrange workshops and etc. I had a good relationship with all my team because we always have a team meeting every Monday to discuss our plans. after my leanership of admin they gave me another opportunity to learn doing Generic Management Level 3 and I continue working with my team well and learn more about admin duties. after that learnership finished I get a contract from HSSE dept to do their admin assistance. I enjoy working with working with big and also a small team with 3 staffs. the challenge of the admin job is, you must be organised every time and come to work before your working time.

Pros: Getting promotion
Cons: Long working hours

High learning exercice

Working in the first lubricant market worldwide environment is very interresting and professionally fun. Every day brings new challenges and learning opportunities in various clusters under our responsabilities such as Pricing, Disputes resolution, Data Analisys, Billing etc... Starting with huddles to plan the day and prioritise tasks, share previous day burning issues and setting the goal and expectation of the day. Collaboration and open communication is our critical point to drive the work load smoothly and maintain the service level agreement. I have learn how it is important to keep commitment toward any promise given to customers or stake holders as this instill trust and creat confidence. I enjoy improving on work task by learning new ways while sticking and complying to standard processes and achieving as a team. Challenge is pushing for answers and changes.

Pros: Huge learning environment
Cons: Flat structure

Amazing diverse global company

I look after two businesses for Shell, Commercial fleet and Commercial fuels for South Africa. My typical day- ensure my staff are ready for the day as well as any admin. Huddle with my staff in the morning. Plan my day accordingly from my calendar - attend stakeholder meetings, report back to my stakeholders, 1 on 1s with my staff adress performance issues as well as growth and developement opportunities. Great relationship with co workers and stakeholders, regular meetings and engagements. Networking is one of my strengths. Ive learnt how to manage people during the most difficult times, staying motivated. Working with a diverse team both on and offshore has been the most enjoyable part of the job, rewarding and motivating my staff to perform optimally and achieve targets never reached before also stands out for me. I would say time is the most challenging part of the job. Working with such a diverse team has also proved to be challenging in managing the people component.

Pros: Working with and managing a diverse group of people, people oriented, lots of opportunities for growth and dev.
Cons: Long hours looking after 2 business

Working as a cashier humbles a person cause you get to learn how to communicate with customers

Working as a cashier can be very stressing because every money that goes in and out of the till counts, but as stressing as it can be it's also enjoyable meeting different characters of people and talking to them.I've learned a lot working for shell. The challenges working with money is the shortage other than that I've always wanted to work with money.

Pros: free safety training
Cons: Long working hours

Learning curve

There are many aspects other than that at the workplace which affects the behaviour of employees, their work and personal lives. Members are easily influenced by the bad apples. I have gained a good working relationship with my co-workers, we are a happy jolly team. I enjoy seeing employees grow in their positions and personally too, we had an employee who worked for us and a year later came to visit and tell us that he is now a qualified paramedic - this makes me happy knowing he has done something good for himself. The most challenging aspect would be the lack of understanding from some employees, mainly due to the fact that we take for granted the luxury of being given a basic education, not all have been granted this luxury and therefore, sometimes communication and understanding on their part and ours to an extent, becomes challenging. I therefore tend to always try and explain matters in the simplest manner possible and always be understanding.

Pros: Making a difference in the lives of members
Cons: long working hours at times

My +10 years experience in using software in the call centre environment.

I would like to put my knowledge and skills in the service of your company, create a reliable climate with the customers. I am resilient and through determination and persistence I have the ability to work in harmony with co-workers. I am driven and motivated by my children to give them the type of life I didn't have. My key strengths are patience, discipline and dedication to help companies become more efficient and to work with managers to find ways to make businesses more profitable. I manage my time to prioritise wisely and set goals in place whether is short or long term.

Pros: growth
Cons: retrenchment

Great Company Morale

Great company and emplyoers. Excellent company moraleAn excellent working environment indeed. I had a pleasure of being flexible in role of responsibility hence it was more lively and interesting to work at Shell SA.Shell is a good company. A normal day at work can hold a lot of new adventures in, with this I have learned how to deal with difficult situations and customers. The management at Shell is excellent and makes that the culture at the company improves day by day and gives all the employees a good environment to work in. There comes times at Shell were you have to put in your level best during rush hour but it's great fun at the same time.

Pros: Vertical growth potential
Cons: long hours
