Steve Biko Academic Hospital Reviews

Excellent learning curve

A typical work day will start at around 7h30. You will see approximately 20 to 30 patients a day, either in die icu setting or general ward or clinic. You have to have a good relationship with all the other disciplines involved (the doctor, nurse, speech therapist...). You have to work together to achieve your goals. I enjoy the clinical aspect of my work, i like to know about the latest research and implement it. The most challenging part of my work is the fact that there is not always stock available in the government setting and you have to make alternative plans.

Pros: learn a lot about the clinical aspects of patients
Cons: High volumes of patients that needs to be seen

Excellent learning curve

We work at different types of departments to increase our knowledge about this whole hospital, the relationship with my core workers is quite nice because we no longer colleagues but sisters and brothers because we there for each other and we assist each other in terms of the tasks given to us. This is my first experience at a hospital, I have never done IT at a hospital and the experience is so exciting.

Pros: great opportunity to do your practicals
Cons: They don't close on festives

Skills perfection.

My relationship with my co-workers it is very good because we work as the team and we are united. I have learned to be very patience and take each day at work as the learning curve and use very opportunity that comes to learn from it and use it as the advantage. I enjoy working with different people in a different medical professional. The most challenging aspects about my job is to assist at the hospital ward. I assists with the hospital events at all from the the preparation of the events, the main events and the after events. I work the food management as well when the is events help with ordering food for the events and deliver them at the events.

Pros: great presentation skills
Cons: working under pressure

Computer skill

From the previous company I worked I enjoyed working as team and interacting with my colleagues they were very good and interesting in the environment, they were mentors and motivative, we were working very hard as we were requested to submit stats to the data analyst and we were submitting in time. The most challenging part is when a lazy group joining us but we were trying our best to push our work because we were working in the most critical environment ( Quality Assurance department)

Pros: Office manager
Cons: We were starting at 07:00 to 16:00

Excellent learning curve

Typical work day is when I have to be in theatre the whole day due to elective and emergency caesarean section that needs to be done since im the only registered nurse in the unit with the Operational manager. My relationship with co workers is good since we both know that our main priority is to provide quality care to patients.I have learnt to work independently and be able to lead the ward.i enjoy seeing patients getting discharged with their improved condition and their healthy babies. The most challenging thing is that we are short staffed and we work a lot of hours which leaves us drained

Pros: Exposure to different medical procedures
Cons: Long hours and not enough resources
