Transnet National Ports Authority Reviews

Excellent Learning curve

-I am currently placed in Limpopo Polokwane at Imperial Cold Logistics, for 3 months for practical training. -I reported in on the 15/08/2016 under my mentor at the cash office. -Each and every morning, there are invoices that are brought in so that can be put in sequence than for scanning and capturing. -And than there is information that I learnt of what a cash officer does everyday, so far I have learnt about how the petty cash money is used for and how should the daily flow of money recorded in different documents. -when the lady from reception is not available, I take calls and massages, transfer the calls on her behalf. -what I enjoy more everyday about my work is learning from my mentor especially new things, she is very patient and gets into detail about everything that she teaches me. -The most challenging thing about being in the cash office is working with money, because at the end of the day, the money that flows in and out should be able to be balanced.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion
Cons: Good Learning working hours

As a procurement professional its always nice to learn new trends in the market

Its interesting to work in my company there is never a dull moment. I'm always busy which help to keep me away from trouble. A typical day starts with checking email for any emergencies, follow up on outstanding things, close off request which were outstanding from the previous day, and start with new requests for the day. I have a good relationship with my colleagues, we have one goal You don't have to get along with everybody, you must just understand why you are there and what you need to achieve. Being able to see the Service of the dredger being on time and getting out of the dock without delays

Pros: it has reasnable working hours, and
Cons: Pressure sometimes can be too much

Customer-oriented

Engage internal and external stakeholders on all initiatives and obtain buy-in. I was involved in initiating the setting of performance standards for the port supply chain and monitoring their performance in order to ensure effective and efficient SA Port System. This assisted me in being able to build effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. I have an opportunity of looking at the human capacity issues from the Operations point of view, which makes me customer-focused.

Pros: Secure job environment,
Cons: Political environment

ER strategy framework development and implementation

I am ultimately responsible for the entire employee relations within the business. I have a solid relationship with organized labour premised on trust and open communication. I have grown exponentially in negotiation skills and managing deferent personalities thereby creating a high performance culture and focused work teams. I enjoy working with people of all levels. The corporate culture of within the organization creates harmony and I find it challenging if engagement culture is given second place.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion
Cons: Office gossip

Work discription

It is good and nice to work for Transnet because they offer lot of opportunities like furthering your studies and they take care of the employees. in charge of in-house and contract security and working hand in hand with Fire Department. relationship with my co-workers is very good, we meet every morning to discuss any matters from work related and some times personal, I have an open door policy. I have learnt a lot when it comes to security management. most challenges is to have short staff and I have to come up with a plan on how to re-organize the department.

Pros: There are opportunities of being promoted but it takes time because Transnet is big.
Cons: I am working 08h00-16h00 except when there is an emergency.

Vast capital project exposure

I am mostly office bound but also go to site because the projects I am involved in take place on site. Site is basically the Port/harbor, different projects happen in different precincts in the port. The different precincts include, the ship repair facility, liquid bulk terminals, container terminals, etc. I have been involved in multi-million eve billion rand projects which involve infrastructure upgrades, export terminal construction, and refurbishment projects. I have learnt a lot in this these projects whereby I received experience in design exposure, project management, tender evaluations and adjudication, drawing reviews, technical optioneering, project costing, stakeholder engagement, etc.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion; exposure to different engineering projects
Cons: long schedule times before projects get into execution
