University of Pretoria Reviews

Love the environment and the people I work with and the students.

I work in an open office together with 10 other people from different cultures. We love and respect each other and also love each other. I love them and we feel like family. We share a lot. I have learnt if you do not like something to make a joke of it and to compliment each other on their strong points. I enjoy the most how we celebrate birthdays and team buildings. The most challenging aspects of the job is to sit most of the day and the to make most of the work.

Pros: Great opportunities for promotion.
Cons: The currently violence on campuses are not good.

Excellent learning curve

I work once a week in between my classes and lab work towards my research project. I have a good working relation with my colleagues as we are all students and are able to assist each other with our different timetables. I have learnt the importance of being prepared for my students. I enjoy seeing the students learn new skills in the lab, or grasping a new theoretical concept. The most challenging part of the job is the limited amount of attention I can give to each student, due to the large class size.

Pros: Keeping in touch with the fundamentals
Cons: The group sizes are quite large, which can be dangerous in the lab.

Experience worth repeating

Working at the CSA&G as a volunteer has taught one allot. The environment and the people outside and inside the organization teach you allot of life experiences as it's based on HIV and AIDS and gender equality. Being a volunteer at the organization helps one improveme their interpersonal skills and view life in an angle that is different.

Pros: Environment is friendly, you learn a lot, there is room for improvement
Cons: There are none

Work place

I experience different tasks and challenges on my typical working day due to my work place nature as a academic institution. My relationship with my co-worker is good. At times co-workers become your family as they are the people you spend most of your time with, i enjoy spending time with my family and going out sometimes, The challenging thing about my work is when i have to process claims and my colleague bring wrong information or bring the claim late.

Pros: Getting experience on new things on my day to day work
Cons: When people are not being proffesional

Great Learning Curve

Its a environment that promotes learning and exposure to practise. Quality of service is imperative and that is what is required of us. Relative autonomy of Legal files is given under the supervision of a highly skilled and qualified attorney. Its a good family environment which breeds and a sense of belonging thus, motivating myself to produce work of a high standard. The ethos of going the extra mile is impressed upon the staff which is being followed. By all. Leadership directive is clear and thus is at all material times followed. Most important of all its a environment that is conducive to hard work and feeding my passion of practising law.

Pros: Great learning curve
Cons: No room for further career growth

I've learnt a lot about science from this institution.

This institution sticks to its rules and regulation. It was a fun experience i had, i mostly enjoyed being at organic chemistry labs. The work load is only factor which challenged me

Pros: Interactive learning
Cons: Long hours at the labs

Assistant Lecturer

As an assistant lecturer, I am expected to only assist senior lecturers with their modules. Recently, I have however been given a lot more responsibilities such as acting as the module coordinator while my lecturers are away, marking and creating semester tests and exams, as well as creating content for modules. I find that I excel under pressure and thrived with more responsibilities and challenges.

Pros: Learning how to survive while being 'thrown in the deep end' and constantly learning as I am currently in the academic field.
Cons: Not many incentives
