Millwright

Working on breakdowns, shutdown and preventive maintenance on electrical and mechanical. Working shift work.woking more than 5 plant everyday.and each plant we are two people who are responsible at plant.we learn every day cause each day it's got different breakdowns,I enjoy my work we learn new things while busy doing breakdowns

Excellent learning curve

I have learnt more about PLC( S5 and S7 300) and SCADA(wonderware Intouch) programming Calibrations of different Field instruments ABB drive 800 and Sew drive experience Simocode experience and Aspen experience Daily inspections on plant instruments and maintainance Doing daily work orders(Job Cards) Attending break down and doing fault finding to resolve plant issues Giving feedback at the end of every shift Ethernet Networks and Profibus Experience

Personal development

I process about 50 orders a day and manage 50 + price list agreements. I enjoy evaluating tenders and drafting contracts. Most challenging aspect is ensuring supplier deliver on time, have to follow up with suppliers all the time and frequently running out of stock and having to buy from another supplier in order to keep production going which defeats the purpose of implementing contracts.

Pros: Company is investing in our development in terms of experience and education
Cons: System is producing too much paperwork. Processes can be time consuim at times.

Excellent and a great training experience

I have worked on furnace, coiler drum, universal coupling and quick couplers. Installing of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders and the valves. Worked with rolls, greasing systems that is air operated, worked on descaler pumps

Pros: Great opportunity given
Cons: Normal working hours and overtime when required to work late

Good safety practise

Safety is adhered at all times, Toolbox talk done every shift No one allowed in plant without correct PPE No task will be done without permit and risk assessment Always isolate and test for zero potential when working with electrical components/moving parts

Pros: Given chance to act on be half of coordinator when absent

A typical work day

Columbus Stainless is a nice and safest working environment, most employees have good working habits this is because the fundamental core of the UGRs (Unwritten ground roles). My day to day responsibilities as a mechanical technician in a maintenance industry is to maintain the plant by applying different maintenance strategies

Pros: No opportunities for promotion
Cons: No long working hours

Excellent learning experience

Columbus is a stainless steel company with hard working employees,it’s technology is advanced cause almost everything is remotely controlled (PLC).environment is friendly as we don’t pollute.Working as a team is our culture and around here we stop,think and plan before we do.
