For Your Information

Deloitte is a warm caring firm to work for. It has great investments programmes for their employees such as (Individual Development Plan), offers online E-Learning courses with a certification of Harvard College. Deloitte embraces diversity by involving all the employees to participate in projects such as Feeding Schemes, Bring a girl child to work, Siyakhula Projects etc. Deloitte gives an exposure on life coaching skills, showing humanity everything you do. The colleagues are great peers to work, we learn different cultural backgrounds, however, we manage to get along very well without disrespecting one another. What I enjoy most is to give back to the community by being involved in the projects such as touching lives and making a difference. Most challenging aspect of the job is work during holidays, less time to spend with family.

Pros: A qualified accountant or auditor has more career growth in the mentioned firm
Cons: 10 hours 24/7

Excellent exposure to local and global best practices

A typical work day was that of 11 to 13 hours work day due to global time difference between South Africa and Head Quarters at 30 Rock in New York. Due to my natural positive people skills, I have created strong relationships within my working environment. I also received various unsolicited feedback reported to the global CEO of the Deloitte group on my energy, can do approach, efficiency and professionalism. I have learnt international business practices in my role as an Executive Assistant and ways of dealing with a diverse group of people across countries, cultures and differences. I enjoy and have a real passion for assisting Executives as it gives me job satisfaction to make a real difference and impact with the smooth office support to not only the Executives at hand but also the people they lead. The challenges are rare because I am solutions driven and thrive under pressure.

Pros: Exposure to global and local best practices
Cons: Extremely long hours due to global time differences

I have learnt a lot about the tools to use and the ins and out about Business Analysis

My working hours are flexible, depending on each day's business. we have daily meetings approximately 3 a day. I have a very good relationship with my co-workers, they value our input as business analysts and so co operative when we making our research on whatever project we are working on. From day one working as a business analysts trainee, I have learnt something new everyday. That is exactly what I enjoy most about my job. My input into the team is very much appreciated, new and innovative ideas. I would say the most challenging part about my job is that, as much as I am patient, there are times where clients, co-workers or any other stakeholders do not pitch up for interviews, meeting and you have a deadline for the project. they don't pitch up various reasons.

Pros: I started as an intern and it led to this part time job.
Cons: I dont mind the hours as long as i am working as a Business analysis, at times I take work home.

Adding Value

For many HR Business Partners the quest to quantify the value add remains a challenge. One that thoroughly embrace and enjoy. Each interactions with a member of the team is an opportunity to achieve strategic business and talent goals. They come with numerous challenges but with rich rewards as well. Ensuring the leaders are appropriately informed through either detailed analysis or intuitive updates and guidance is a core deliverable, while ensuring the Talent initiatives run smoothly and remain relevant is equally important. By doing the right things well the value add seems to speak for itself, but the only way that is possible to ensure that a two way trust relationship is established and sound. To do that an HR Business Partner, must remain reliable, knowledgeable and adaptable, I believe this is me in a very small nutshell.

Pros: Everyday interactions test ones ability to provide sound talent advice within the frameworks and nuisances of the organisation, the law and the individual
Cons: Growth and Keeping up to speed with Talent Trends yet alone getting buy-in to implement them

About my job

A typical work day for me involves with interacting with clients telephonically, compiling sound reports and being a team player. My co-workers and I make a great team. Among other things that I have learnt from my job, patience is the best skill that I have learnt. The most challenging aspect of my job is having to deal with rude international clients. I always try make them understand that our accents will differ as we are from different parts of the globe.

Pros: Workign in a family orientated environment
Cons: Shift work
