Difficult environment to work in because of long approval processes.
Long processes which contradicts a 30 day payment timeliness are mostly frustrating. Otherwise a good working place to be when taking job security into consideration.
Pros: Possible promotions if you improve your qualification.
Cons: Long frustrating approval processes (red tape).

Excellent learning curve
It was good working with my colleagues and we have good relationship with my foreman and everyone in the work. I learned respect and team working the enjoyable part is to improvement in my skills the most challenging my skills is that you must willing to everytime even in lunch time if the is emergency situations.

My typical day at the Department of Public Works
I work an 8hr day. It is filled with fun and hardwork. I have a very good and pleasant relationship with the officails in the department. I work directly with 55 officials on a daily basis. I love the challenges of working with various stakeholders which include National Government Departments and private property owners. The jobs is never the same each day. I enjoy negotaiting contracts with landlords and other stakeholders. I also enjoy report writing.

Department of Public Works.
Public Works is ICT centric . Executive are 100% for service delivery. though it is evident that the general staff do not quite carry the same passion for service delivery. There are efforts in place with mentor and coaching to revitalise the general staff (rehabilitation process) and the required exposure and competitve salaries offerings may assist to boost morale. and the exciting and mind blowing 3D Printing technology , TELEMETRY technology to be the first for Department of Public Works to be competitive with the Private sector if not the leader.

Cons: Lack of commitment and being passionate from general staff

The most chaalengingi aspects is that we dont get to communicate face to face with the employer because they are based in heard office , and there is a chain of directors in order to get to them .

Facilities and maintenance
A typical day for me is to asses the building / equipment and facilities for any damages attend to staff logged calls for this that need to be fixed. for small repairs required i will fix myself and for major things that need to be fixed i source out quotes for suppliers. challenges would be sourcing out quotes and the department does not have a budget. over the years i have learnt to work well with colleagues as at times you they need my assistance to carry out their day to day duties.
Pros: Leaning a lot of handy work
Cons: less budget
