Because I have a passion for it and that is one of the reasons I decided to do BTECH Quality Degree. I am willing to start at low salary. Eskom has molded my career. It's a very good company to work for.

Primary USVD as source of our work. Having to assist users with technical errors in the system, running and monitoring reports. Identify bugs and system enhancements. I'm also responsible for training session, where I am ought to teach users about the only Billing system the customer bother locally and SADEC. My team, is very diverse, full of youth who are very driven , my role is to ensure there's always constant knowledge transfer happening amongst the team. Facilitation of Brown Bag session. Knowledge transfer session via WebEx, and ensuring that mandatory training is attended by all team members. Coming from an Accounting background I have learnt a lot on-job training and my technical proficiency. I can use SQL scripting, Global Debug, Interpret Error Logs and do Impact analysis, Functional specs, Functional and System Testing Level of commitment within my team is contagious Within the OLA there's is too much silo mentality and it renders the value chain a little bit in efficient.

Pros: Rewards hard workers, Ad hoc salary increase, Performance Bonus
Cons: Flexi-time is only on policy , they are very ridig (Line Managers)

Application for Position

As Divisional Environmental and Quality Manager for a R350bn power utilities construction programme, a typical day would be safe guarding SHEQ for International funders (WB;IFC;FDB;AfDB) and securing tranches. Ensuring that Government platforms for environmental licensing (EIA;Water, waste, social, air) is maintained in planning and execution of construction. ensuring target of 8000Mw; 600km of line construction; is maintained and executed and aligned with SDG's. I have enjoyed the development and growth of people in achieving goals and have learnt that teams can achieve great growth. The most challenging aspects of the job relate to up skilling other disciplines e.g. engineering to achieve targets i.e. the immaturity of the Project Life Cycle Model.

Pros: Great exposure to funding mechanisms on mega projects
Cons: Working for a state owned entity

My time working at Eskom was a learning curve for me.

A typical work day was goingto the office every morning to get job orders from the dispatch then go to site. Eskom encourages team work because almost everything is done with a work partner or in a group - I have learnt that safety is important as you work with live electricity. - I enjoyed everything about working at eskom and the most department I enjoyed working were metering and telecontrol. - Testing an equipment was a challenge because you cannot just assume that a certain part is faulty.

Pros: Great opportunity for growth
Cons: Taking too many learners and not be able to appoint them permanently.
