My personal experience at Eskom

It has been great working for Eskom. I have made a few good friendships over the years, and get along well with my boss and colleagues. I have learned a lot about the electrical network and its challenges. There was a time when I had just started and worked standbys, that was a challenging but yet exciting time of my working life as I learned a lot in the process. Eskom is a company that takes good care of its employees. They are also quite fair when it comes to taking leave and attending to family issues. They promote working safely and being ethical at all times. Presently, the most challenging part is not being able to work to my full potential, hence looking for something different.

Pros: Fair when it comes to working times
Cons: Not working to full potential and less promotion opportunity

Amazing Growth Path

My normal day starts with a teleconference with my subordinates at various sites, at Medupi, Ingula, Kusile, Majuba Rail and Duvha Power Stations. we do a review of the previous week then develop a weekly stakeholders engagement plan. I managed a team of 15 competent managers and I have a good professional working relationship with them. My position is fulfilling because each day has its own dynamics. I spend most of my days meeting with various stakeholders such as government, media, business chambers and organized labour associations to engage and discuss matters of mutual interest regarding the Eskom New Build projects. the most challenging aspect of my job is the demands from the stakeholders. working for this area in the business, which has a budget of over R350 billion comes with its own challenges and expectations from stakeholders.

Pros: exposure to multi-billion rand project environment, travelling, career growth, exposure to confidential information
Cons: long working hours, unrealistic demands and expectations from stakeholders,

Your only a Number

working in environment were race out-ways experience, a shallow working environment where superiors are appointed by race and sex and not on merits of experience and knowledge of the business.

Pros: Include pension and medical aid
Cons: no potential for growth
