I manage the companies whole safety management system, implementation and day to day operations
Every workday is different and challenging especially with all our different training departments -Carpentry, Fitting & Turning, Electrical, Automation, Electronics, Boilermaking, Maintenance & Plumbing. I get along with all my co workers except for the fact they see me and my jnr safety officer as “traffic cops”. I have learnt a lot with my time at the company especially now over the last year with this Covid virus through NIOH, DEL, and Covid councils. With that said since the start of the covid and the number of employees we have we have not had one single case of covid in the workplace. The things I enjoyed most was been able to interact with the instructors and the students been able to give one on one training to some of the students who took a liking to safety and wanted to know more and empower themselves. The most challenging part of the job is running / managing the safety day to day operations for all 4 branches with just myself and my jnr safety officer.
Pros: 100% backing from group senior managers
Cons: no benefits

Multidisciplinary Dream
Requires a multidisciplinary person. Most of the people are excellent collaborators. I have develoed technical and business skills. I enjoy having to do solutions architecture, analysis, financial projections, process optimisation, a bit of actuarial work and business development all in a day's work. As any business analyst would say, it's breaking the resistance to change in peoples' minds that is the trick of the trade.
Pros: Development opportunities
Cons: Low remuneration compared to added value

Learning experience
A typical day involves designing products requested by the clients before they are sent for prototype manufacturing. The relationship with my co-workers is a beneficial one were everyone benefits from the other through advice, teaching and discussions. I have learnt how to use solidworks at a much higher level as challenges such as coming up with solutions and different ideas rose.
Pros: Good opportunity to get into industry
Cons: Not enough exposure

The skills training program is exciting.
The skills training program was exciting we were learning how to weld, how tou use milling and lathe machines and also cnc machines. A typical work day would be like in the morning we have a small meeting where we get briefing and do safe work procedures and risk assessments then work starts for everyone depending on which workshop you currently at eg. Boiler making. then 12 pm lunch after 45 minutes we are back to work then 3.30pm we knock off. The environment is good but some of the management people are bad.
Pros: Great industrial training
Cons: Bad management

Excellent learning curve
It is a great company with excellent stuff. Friendly, and very well equipped with training and programs. The stipend is low compared to other though. It is funded by SETA and in partnership with AIDC, which opens other great opportunities. It was really a great experience and goo learing curve which exceed my expectations. I learned alot in the past year, and obtained different types of qualifications. As an RC alumni, i would highly recommend it to any Electrical Technician/engineer that just graduated to gain work exposure and skills, that would also open doors to more great opportunities.
Pros: Good training institute
Cons: Low stipend
