Sa Navy Reviews

Most excellent learning curve, training and development.

I have gained experience, training at the company's expenses. I grew very well with the job with different people mentoring me. I have trained and worked with many different people and enjoyed every second of it. There were great opportunities and development up until I got to a point where I am.

Pros: Great opportunities to grow and gain experience
Cons: Working weekends and sometimes have to travel at short notice. As you grow development becomes limited.

I learned alot because every after six months I was going on course. Eg First Aid, Fire fighting,

I was working 8 hours a day and pulling duties every after 4 days(24hrs). The communication that we had was very strong because we were working as a team on daily basis. As well as our relationship was good, we were like a family. I enjoyed solving problems, being a team player as well as working independently sometimes. I learned computer, driving skills (Military License) and of course Military skills. I was in the supply department (transport and logistics).

Pros: I believe I have more opportunities to the maritime industry
Cons: I was working 8 hours a day pulling duties for 24 hours and working on weekends.

Good foundation

Good day I have been with the Navy for more than 10 years and I have learnt a lot during this time. My interpersonal skills have been developed beyond my imagination, computer skills since my work is 80% computer based. I have also seen my leadership skills flourish since I got entrusted with leading roles in many activities and currently in a supervisory level, my reports speaks volume and the awards I have obtained since I became a senior operator. Communication is what I do for leaving and it's what I have been practising since I joined the SA Navy and I enjoy it a lot. The challenging parts of my job would be shortage of resources and limited career growth opportunities but other than that I'm copying very well

Pros: Self development opportunity which produces a great individual
Cons: Absence from home for lengthen period

My career at SANavy

I am working onboard ship, our day to day work start with roll call at 07:30 and followed by planning meeting at 08:00. We work duties over night as part overtime on shifts and normal working days is from monday to Friday. I have a very good relationship with my co-workers and treat each other as family. I have learned a lot from the organisation, computer skill, management skill, mechanical skill and electrical skills. The most interesting I like about my job is sailing around the world and the challenging this about this work of mine is to be away from my family for long.

Pros: I am on senior promotion post
Cons: I want enhance my skill and shappen myself.

Excellent experience working in different systems.

I'm working with different systems on board the submarine like hydrolic system, compressed air system, propulsion system etc which I experience most of the theory that I did at tertiary. We work as a team, we trust each other, give training to those who need training. We are a family. I learn how to work with different people, different attitude and how to handle people. I enjoy my work and co operation on my subordinates, team work. The most challenging is that I'm working with dangerous vessel then I must always avoid mistakes, I must make sure subordinates are well trained.

Pros: Promotion wise its quick but depending on my progress
Cons: Eight hours normal day and twenty four hours when I am duty after four days

Great starting point

It's a great start, I've learned a lot and the environment is friendly, co works are as close as family, my day usually starts with rall call at seven forty and then administrative work like filling and bookings, then scheduling meetings, attending walk ins, attending monthly, and quarterly meetings, reports and agendas and we have gym. Usually taebo or walks up the mountain. Then afternoon both watches, because it's the military we get to have parades and deployment where we do Ohasa on site. I enjoy the social gatherings which happen every term, and the most challenging thing is on the job inspection as people pretend to be safely conscious. But I would like to experience things outside the defence force.p

Pros: Growth opportunities
Cons: Can be too military
