Great learning experience

It was a great learning platform, we were provided with all tools one could require for the job. I mostly loved how i just grew in my work and these made me more confident and independent. I started leading my own projects and reviewing some in house methods for any modification. It was alot of work considering the fact that we were only two technicians but we did rise to the challenged

Pros: there is room for learning
Cons: short staff

My experience at the University of Pretoria has been amazing.

I am currently working on the African citrus psyllid. I am looking at the influence of abiotic and biotic mortality factors on the psyllid. Typical day includes monitoring the three ochards in Pretoria for the presence of psyllids. I also take data readings using ibuttons. I take care of my psyllid culture on a daily basis. I am good team player and tha makes me feel blessed because a lot can be done with the help of others. I really enjoy working with my insects, pruning seedlings for making bew flushes for my insects and also researching about yhis pest gives me joy. Challenges include maintaining the psyllid culturr.

Pros: Great opportunity for learning new skills
Cons: Working under pressure

Good experience

Currently, I assist with reporting documents and drafting letters; planning, scheduling and preparation of the conferences & meetings; updating mailing lists and maintaining the members, publication and media databases. I also provide the general office administration and support. I enjoy events management and good relationships with all my colleagues. The most challenging part of my job is keeping on a diet because there are always treats being brought into the office.

Pros: Courses offered
Cons: No opportunities for promotion
