Forces you to think in another way.

University forces one to think outside the box. It shows you to what extend can you push yourself mentally. It was a great opportunity to meet new friends that will last forever.

Opportunity for growth

The university taught me a lot about corporate environment. There is a great corporate culture I fitted with so well. I learnt a lot of financial work I had no idea of since it was not my major. I have been given a chance to experience other departments and I think it will be an advantage in furthering my career going forward.

Pros: Great first corporate experience
Cons: Far from home

Excellent working environment

Working for the university is very fulfilling and rewarding. I enjoy being a teaching assistant and working with other academics. I also enjoy teaching and learning. A typical workday would be in a lecture room teaching or supervising a group of about 100 students or working in a laboratory conducting experiments and/ or supervising a group of about 5 students a time.

Pros: Great working environment and many opportunities for learning and improving yourself
Cons: Not a very high salary

Working at Mimmos

I worked as a waiter at Mimmos, in Watermeyer. I enjoyed the short time I worked there in 2018 (from the beginning of January, to the end of February), but it was challenging. Around February, the restaurant would get very busy, putting strain on myself and the other waiters. In a short period of time I learned to cope with very stressful situations. I befriended a few colleagues, for which I was greatful, because they allowed for learning opportunities. It's safe to say that I learned most of the skills I needed to be efficient from them. The most challenging part of the job was dealing with mistakes - be it a mishap in the kitchen or my own fault. Professionalism is key during times like these - a skill I learned through personal experience.

Pros: Great for learning how to work under pressure
Cons: Long hours, late nights, difficult situations with some co-workers
