Environment and sustainability management for Transnet Freight Rail
I receive different scales of projects proposals for environment and sustainability input. I review project proposals and obtain clear project scope. I conduct environmental screening and check for triggers requiring permitting and authorisations. Where required I provide requirements for Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and Evaluations Criteria to Supply Chain Services Department. I evaluate the EMP submitted for proposed works and score bidders accordingly using an evaluation criteria. I develop a comprehensive Environment and Social Governance report specific to the scope of the project and. I develop a specific Sustainability Design Criteria Report which includes Sustainability Objectives and Sustainability Key Performance Indicators for the project. I support the implementation of ISO 14001 into business processes.
Pros: There is always great engineering, technology and innovative knowledge received each day from different projects
Cons: Pressure: There is a period in a year where projects just come in big numbers and coping becomes a challenge

Great learning Curve
I learnt a lot things because I got involved in the projects whereby I monitor them on a day to dat basis while I capture minutes and provide whatever assistance the other party needed from us. I'm also hands on in operations in doing stack dates for the customers prior to when the vessel open according to when our stack closes here at the terminal. I also amend containers to verify if their departed or still within the terminal. I also learn how to plan trains There are also few trainings that I attended as well.
Pros: Great opportunity with an awesome team
Cons: Balanced working hours

Personal development a necessity
It is a formal environment with direct engagement with management but long organograms interfere with immediate and urgent decision making. Opportunity to grow on own pace is guaranteed and availability of training is a bonus.
Pros: enough training
Cons: Long reporting structure

Learning new things everyday.
It was indeed a learning curve for me and I admire it. Conducting trainings and internal audits for all the depots under my jurisdiction. Giving correct measures for employees in the Senior level. Ensuring Legal Compliance and Bylaws.
Pros: Job security was there.
Cons: The pressure of work didn't balance with the salary

Its been a great learning curve
a typical day at work would be dealing with Transnet customers daily whether communicating via mails/ telephone. my relationship with my co-workers has always been good as i ensure that i respect and communicate better with them at all times. i have learnt a lot in the logistic industry as i see that its very competitive and requires dedicated people to be able to deliver on their promise to its clients. i enjoyed working on systems as we usually assist the clients using them as our daily duties. the most challenging job was when we were not able to deliver our promise to the clients and the short shipments of their products.
Pros: great exposure to the transport and logistic industry
Cons: end up assisting customer even after work hours

A great platform to learn the practicality of metallurgy and a good platforn to showcase my skills
A great platform to learn the practicality of metallurgy and a good platforn to showcase my skills. A good and a busy working platform was good for the mind. We had teamwork projects which helped out to actually projected what you know and your skills. I learned a lot different machine operations in the laboratory and I enjoyed metallorgraphy part .
Pros: Great company for a start
Cons: None

Challenging and developing environment
It has been such a challenge working at Transnet. The challenges I’ve faced have groomed me into the women I am today. My first challenge would be that we are short staffed and do not have enough resources to do our work effectively. The fourth industrial revolution is upon us yet majority of the company’s employees are not computer literate - how can we go digital? Nonetheless, I am grateful for the impact and exposure that I’ve received over the past year at Transnet :)
Pros: Great Work Experience
Cons: Company is short staffed
