Excellent learning curve
It is good to work for PetroSA though at the moment the company is facing difficulties like any petroleum company due to economic conditions. Attend production meeting , follow up on production requests, checking results , batching of final products. I have a good relationship with co-workers. At the moment I am learning Fuel specialist functions which were added to mine as a result of person retired early this year. I am enjoying this part as I take it as a development on my career though its challenging as there was no handover.
Pros: Fuel specialist functions broaden my scope
Cons: There are no remuneration for added responsibilities

Technical Growth
My day starts with a meeting at 06:30 where previous day's work progress is discussed. Then work plan for the day is also discussed. My preparation for next day's work begins at 13h00 by writing work permits from notifications raised by production personnel, routines from the planner or defects raised by myself from my daily inspections. Before I start working on any equipment, I first do daily inspections on critical equipment such as chillers, air-conditioning, freezer rooms and cold rooms. Then I fill in the daily logbook of that equipment. At 16:00 I give a daily report to the engineer about the status of tasks for the day. Then work continues till 18:30. Thats what typically goes on for two weeks in a month and the other two weeks I'm off duty.
Pros: Job security since it is a State firm. There is more to learn still especially in electrical.
Cons: Two weeks at sea is strenuous and impacts negatively on family life.

Excellent.Great working environment.I gained a lot of knowledge and skills
I was a student employed for a year to complete my chemical engineering diploma at PetroSA. We worked on 12 h our shifts in groups of 3 and it would either be a day o night shift. It was a great learning experience. One person would be in the plant room, the other at the lab and the third would be in the control room. My colleagues were all dedicated and we had a great team where everyone felt free to bring ideas and solutions to problems that we faced in the plant. My superviser was the best he taught us a long and didnt hold back any information about the industry.I enjoyed serving and being empowered wth knowledge ind the petrochemical industry. My tachnical skills improved a lot. Working for 12 hours was challenging bit i enjoyed it.
Pros: Great opportunity for growth
Cons: long working hours

Excellent learning curve. First time on PetroSA site for a shutdown
Was chosen for a shutdown, 10/09/2018 - 09/11/2018 Had to give a progress report every morning on production. Update data pack as production progresses. Such as, weld maps, NDT requests. Do surveillance inspection as well as visual inspection on completed welds. Liaise with 3rd Party inspector according to QCP intervention points. After work is completed, compile End of Job documentation, and ensure all parties sign these documents. Submit data packs for archiving. I have learned to have patience because a large number of artusans, only started their apprenticeship as pipe fitters and welders. So, it was to teach them how the whole system works with inspections, etc as we ll as to transfer knowledge when facing challenges which they never encountered. Greatest satisfaction was to see what they were taught and how they implemented it into their daily tasks
Pros: People are supporting one another and it is a good living environment
Cons: Job opportunities are limited.

Excellent working curve and exposure to uncharted waters.
I arrange meeting to discuss mitigating factors to complete work within required time. Measure on the Gantt Chart the actual progress against planned work. Coaching and motivating all stakeholder for them to reach outcomes of the day. What i have learned that all people possess different challenges one has to listen and see end result how to meet the required target. First phase of project is most tricky as all people have different work ethic. What i like is when finally we know where we need to be to achieve as a team. To close a project and having completed milestones.
Pros: Opportunity to be promoted.
Cons: Long working hours.
