Day in the life of a banker

Standard Bank is an innovative company that is also steeped in tradition. Every day is an adventure as we are always trying to continuously improve. A typical day can centre around attending many meetings strategizing or collectively trying to solve a customer request. I work with many capable people across numerous divisions and geographies. Everything we do is always centred around what is best for the customer. it is not a problem to wake up everyday to go to work. The organisation is much less about a fancy building and more about the people that inhabit it. The team is always on hand to assist and not afraid to challenge respectively. My biggest lesson is that you must love what you od so you never have to work a day in your life. I enjoy the challenge of always striving to do better and being able to challenge the status quo. The most challenging part of my job is that we have to deliver above market related results in a highly regulated industry.

Excellent communication skills

working at my current employer is tough but i like the challenges i have learned a lot from good people they are very supportive and they would allow growth. i would like to move on because i like to challenge myself more as currently i am comfortable and i feel in order for me to grow i need to look for a new challenge.

Excellent learning curve

There wasn't enough room to grow in the Call Center as no promotion was available. Permanent posts are minimal. It is a great learning curve in terms of learning about customer satisfaction and experience on a daily basis.

Worked for nedbank for 7 years, worked for standard bank for 15 years

I have over 20 years work experience. working in financial sector, administrative, clerical and team leader capacity. last position held was service consultant handling all service or sales related queries. also in charge on branches treasury in a senior capacity

Pros: will be working in the field of my work experience and enjoyment
Cons: i have been unemployed for the last 4 years, my talent and work experience needs to be shared with those who need my help

Rapid learning environment

the world is moving very fast regarding the digital journey and South Africa is affected by it. for the past 5 years i have learned firstly to adjust quickly to different strategies as things change quickly, come up with solutions that are related to the current world and are very much cost effective. i have learned to understand what customers need especially in my time in the financial sector. learned to built different solutions from digital applications to fixed physical solutions which suit the customers needs. with co-workers working in the AGILE setup has helped me to understand people better, and even the psychology element in User Experience has helped to understand how people behave, different characters etc. as i am currently working in a big organisation, is difficult to make sure that everyone is following the right strategy and they are on the same page. People have different believes, age gaps, skills, experience etc. is very hard to make sure that they understand each other.

Excellent working environment as a company

Customer Service Skills, Leadership skills Management skills. People management Presentation skills The level of authority, Working with Quality Assurance is great and taking ownership.

Excellent curve learning

I was working for standard bank. I enjoyed working with customers and meeting targets that are set for you monthly. We would compete with my colleagues with meeting targets.sometimes you would serve difficult customers and make you wanna quit your job but if you strong enough you wouldn't let them spoil your day. I have learned that you don't have to take things personally when dealing with customers.

Working with people is a great thing because it grooms you personally and career-wise

Working in this company is a privilege. In all these years I've grown personally and also career wise. I've gained confidence and an ability to work with people (my colleagues and clients). The most thing I enjoyed is to do the risk and compliance, be involve in changing others lives by assisting them. It is challenging to speak and assist different customers with different behaviours but also a learning curve which I will always keep with me.

Great learning opportunities

Standard bank is great place to work at gives you all the tools to be able to improve yourself and all employees working together to better the company. I have learnt a great deal from my mentors regarding programming and supporting. I enjoy the most of my current company is that our managers are always interacting with us to create a better environment
