Great part time university
I am currently unemployed and looking for employment in the accounting and auditing field. I am however studying part time via Unisa and I am doing my Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting Sciences also know as CTA level 1.
Pros: Study at comfort of your home

A challenging, demanding but rewarding job
A typical day involves working with people and doing administrative tasks. I generally have good working relationships with my colleagues. I have learnt to expect the unexpected and have learnt to be more assertive when necessary. I thoroughly enjoy observing the growth and development of the students I work with. The most challenging aspect of my job is having to deal with an unpredictable colleague.
Pros: Opportunity to work with people and doing admin - utilising both left and right brained skills
Cons: Unrealistic demands from several sources at various times.

EXECELLENT LEARNING CURVE AT UNISA

Excellent learning curve
Great in terms of learning experience and professional development. The people and coworkers and phenomenal and at peak times, the work load becomes important as more energy and focus are required for great expected outcomes

Excellent learning

New adventure every year.
Identify the areas were students number are high so that we can secure space to support them with tutorial classes as well and academic literacy. Interact with students who have received their study material and do not know what to do, how to write assignment, how to communicate with the academic staff and all learning problems that they experience. Prepare support for students before they register and after they are registered. Before they register is to make projection of modules that students will require support in and source the necessary staff to be appointed for the offering of the modules. Involved with community outreach that is for the office and as an individual.
Pros: Starting learning centers in remote areas and see students use them.
Cons: Develop all the support that you think students will require it and they do not use it.

Age discrimination
There are many benefits like a good salary, bonus. Flexitime, permission to do 270 hours consulting work per year. International conference attendance. Workload is very high and it cannot be completed within normal office hours. The university is however overly bound by policies and everything has to be signed by many administrators, making it very difficult to do even basic things. The university has a compulsory retirement policy that is completely inflexible. After retirement they expect you to continue working as an independent contractor, but independent contractors are exploited. An independent contractor is at a lower post level than a tutor. Unisa regularly terminates the contracts of contractors without any warning. Unisa does not care that policies contravene the constitution.
Pros: Good salary, flexitime, other financial incentives. mentally challenging work, opportunities to improve oneself, international conference attendance, 270 hours outside work per year. Academic freedom.
Cons: High workload that cannot be done within office hours. Compulsory retirement age. Very bad red-tape and controls that do not make sense.

More than 20 years as a security supervisor
I have worked as a security supervisor for more than 20 years, I am currently working at unisa since april last year as a security officer, am currently acting as a security supervisor at Unisa, the past years I was working for private companies at unisa, I started working security in 1996 after just finished training as a security officer in 1996

Administration
Registering students local and international update them with outstanding fees and minimum fees for registration Excellent in using pastel system as well as excel able to work independently and as team Better improvement in customer service management Very challenging to maintain same level of customer care
Pros: Able to face all different kind of clients on my own
