City of Cape Town Reviews

I can continue to learn and contribute as much value as I can.

i worked with different people ,different attitude ,different religions. The most challenge me is when a person see me doing something wrong making a mistake not telling me instant going around talk about me i hate that because i believe that as we walk together we are the family we have to correct, respect, love and teach each other so that we can build and protect the vision of the company,i enjoy to team work, teach and learn ,i love to grow as a person.

Pros: challenges so that grow
Cons: doing same thing for many year without growth

Great place to do any apprenticeship

I was a great am experience to serve my apprenticeship at the city of cape town. The sheer size of the electrical departments that the covers is truly broad. It allows use to see different sides that electrical has to offer and how even through it is one trade it has many different areas we can specialise in.

Pros: Exposure offered to the electrical field
Cons: The cold in winter

The civic center is a business and office environment.

The general culture at the civic is rush to work in the morning in order to sign in on time or earlier. The 2nd floor concourse is where every council member passes in order to get to their offices or leave the building or get a bite to eat. Lunch time usually a rush beginning from 12:00pm till 1:00 pm council members leaving their offices to grab a bite to eat, some leave their offices to stretch the legs, get some air or go to the designated area’s for a smoke. Co-workers are generally friendly, general culture of the civic center is vibrant, small talk, and people rushing to get their work done, sending documents, transporting to different depots in The morning, making calls, visiting different floors. Overall it’s a good environment to work in and can get quite as well.

Pros: Being a Muslim they are pro Muslim when it comes to my times of prayer during the day, there are facilities allocated and my senior employer is very understanding of my religious duties
Cons: The civic can get quiet for a couple of weeks and gets quite boring. However when it is busy and have a lot of work to do the environment becomes stressful and not a pleasure to work in.

Excellent Learning Curve

Working at my current employer has taught me so much, from who I am as a person, to how to work extremely sparingly with my money (salary). It was a good learning curve, and I gained some valuable experience.

Pros: Great opportunity
Cons: Salary was very poor

A Firm Foundation

A typical working day includes handling staff queries, responding to emails. Plan for the facility, the maintenance and repairs and any major or minor upgrades. I deal with community stakeholders as I am in the public sector. I have learnt a lot of patience as we deal with different people with different character traits. I have learnt about the government procurement process, customer centricity. I enjoy working with people and to be of service to the community also the office administration experience that I am getting I thoroughly enjoy. Staff development and growth are a big challenge for me as I have set timelines for myself and with the stagnant growth comes a lot of frustration and feeling like I am not learning anything more. I love new challenges and want to constantly be learning. Senior management is also do not display a keen interest in supporting lower graded employees.

Pros: Gain a lot of experience
Cons: Stagnant growth

Excellent!

Safety is a big aspect in this organisation, and we make it part of our every day life. We work according to strict company policies and procedures. Very high standards are set and we work very hard to meet those standards. We get audited regularly to check if we meet the required standards.

Pros: Great company benefits
Cons: Little growth potential

Learning curve

On a typical day you come in the morning and clock in at/before 07:30. Attend a meeting with a supervisor and other artisan to brief about previous jobs status and the new jobs you Have. After the meeting you go out on the field with a job card either to attend a breakdown or to do planned maintenance. The company doesn't have specified times for lunch and tea break. I usually had to work in a team to achieve most of the work so the relationship with Co workers was good. What I learned most was to always pay attention to detail as we worked with electricity and it can be dangerous if you are working recklessly and unsafe. Most challenging aspect is the long hours and you also have to deal with customers

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion
Cons: Working on standby and weekend

English well spoken

Im very enthusiastic goal driven. Ability to work under pressure and pay more attention to detai. I worked well with staff dealing with complaints if unpaid overtime liase with HR department to do EFT. I have learned that as the office administrator it is significant to treat all staff effectively fairly. It is my great pleasure when im assisting staff with their matters involving preventing unpaid . The challenges are deadlines to submit however the only solution is to work extra hours to prevent late submition.

Pros: Recognition of being a dedicated employee
Cons: Long working hours

Good ROI

I have recently accepted a voluntary position at CIPS WC Branch as a board member (Part of the Student and education institution team), in order to help revive the CIPS brand and get as much exposure to the institution which has equipped me with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the Supply Chain Field. Through this, I stay updated with current trends and knowledge, as well as network with prestigious individuals who have massive influence in procurement structure and willing to share knowledge and expertise. My aim is to work with your company ( in Supply Chain) and contribute by sharing my knowledge and experience whilst further educating myself, adding more value not only to myself, but also to the organization, which I believe will be beneficial to both parties.

Pros: Job security
Cons: Flat career growth
