Its a good learning curve to work at Department of Correctional Services ,the environment is huge, and working with different users and teams every day .No typical day at DCS, every day is different ,depending on the User's request and your planning for that day .We have a very good working relationship with my co-workers and we promote team work so that we can learn from each other .The most challenging aspect is when the User have an issue and they do not know how to define it because they do not understand the system and the other challenge is when there is Network problem .

Pros: Opportunity for groowth
Cons: No formal training

JOB REVIEW

Im directly reporting to the Area Commissioner with the staff compliment of 1760 employees and six Correctional Centres and six Community Corrections. My main duties is to coordinate, evaluate and facilitate the Management Area Annual Performance Information and to respond to oversight bodies. I have a good working relationship with all officials within the Management Area, Regional office and National Head Office as I have to communicate in writing or orally on a daily basis with all stakeholders. the most challenging aspect of my work is relying on other stakeholders to provide information that has to be reported to the Regional Office within a specific timeframe.

Pros: medical Aid, Housing Allowance, Bursaries, Sports
Cons: Long working hours

What stood out as a life lesson is that as a change agent, we ultimately need to remember that people generally want be treated with care, respect and have empathy to understand their unique situation

Pros: Great learning curve and a different experience added to my CV

One learnt everything about Managing of an institution.

Working at a Correctional Centre can be very dangerous if one is not vigilant enough. It is however interesting because as an official, you deal with and understand behaviour of people from all back-grounds. As manager, most subordinates who are hardworking enjoyed working with me whereas about 20% never enjoyed to work under me.I enjoy interaction with people more that sitting alone in the office.I have learnt to handle a big group of people and address whatever issue they

Pros: Opportunity to grow through the ranks of the Department
Cons: Favouritism when it comes to treatment of employees by some managers
