Excellent learning curve
With the experience that I have from SARS I believe I will be able to make an immediate contribution to the Competition Commission. I am a Compliance and Risk Analyst graduate trainee at South African Revenue Services (SARS) head office in Brooklyn. I have honours in economics from University of Limpopo. My responsibility at work is to receive allegations of the reported non-compliance to tax laws, identify the risks from individuals and/or companies of non-compliance to Income Tax Act, Customs and Excise Act and Tax administration Act. Evaluate those risks based on the reported non-compliance to tax laws and then make recommendations.

Planning of the requests Negotiation of Prices Contracts Management Initiate process and procedural change, implement the change and provide guidelines and support related to new requirements as a result of the change. Provide specialist input through the investigation of opportunities for operational and multiple process, product and risk optimization. Identify and resolve queries and problems timeously, apply discretion in line with process guidelines provided and escalate unresolved problems.

Challenging and very interesting field
To plan and execute Compliance limited scope audits (one tax period / one quarter submission), single risk and single tax type/duty/levy, desk and / field audits on Excise clients identified as possible risk by auditing Excise records, financial documents and manufacturing processes in order to ensure compliance with the relevant legislations and rebate provisions for optimal Revenue Collection, Protection of the society in order to support the Excise mandate

20 year experience working at SARS.
Worked as a functional specialist at SARS. Achieved yearly targets given. Conducted integrated audits at various entities to ensure tax compliance. Worked in teams and assisted each other daily to ensure that all meet targets. The thing I enjoyed the most was the targets given and working under pressure as a team to assist all to attain their individual targets.

Skilled level
I am Customs officer and my daily duties are the following: facilitation of movement in and out of the country, this includes people and goods. we work as a team, because you can't do a thing alone. I have learned lots of things when it comes to working with people and other team members. I can now do risk and determine risk. I can also put measures to minimize that risk. I am enjoying working with people and investigation is where I enjoy the most. sometimes we do get challenging clients and we managed to deal with them.

My typical day and the organisation that i work for.
I work in a highly structured, hierarchical environment where I am governed by standard operating procedures. The organisation is highly organised in terms of systems, policies and procedures that must be adhered to. However, I am involved on a daily basis in the writing of business cases to ensure that certain solutions within the business materialise. I consider myself to be professional and have good professional relationships.
Pros: I get the job done irrespective, I have good professional relationships with my stakeholders.

I have learnt a lot as and gaines a lot of experience to how to deal with different characters or kinds of people as i have delt and solved different customers and clients queries. Working in a team has helped me a lot as i am now able to socialise with people and listen to other people's opinions. Been a xhallenge because i have to make sure that i have to make sure that the client or customer is satisfied and provide the best service ever. Even if it means to work overtime im always willing to go an extra mile to make sure that i achieve what us expected from me.
Pros: Would like to get the promotion one meaning that make sure that i reach my target evwry month

Excellent learning curve
it is quite interesting to be within the organisation as most of the times I get to learn new things , the working environment is not so bad but I feel like the organisation does not invest more on its employees. Salary is reasonable but not what I was expecting but overall it is an excellent learning curve.
