Excellent learning curve
I proactively take initiative or initiate to do what is right for any organisation I work for and its mission. I always strive to make an extra effort beyond the normal requirements of my job. My previous roles have developed my planning, problem solving, organisational and communication skills. In addition to being flexible, I am highly motivated and committed. I am able to work different kinds of shifts and under pressure. My ability to persevere even under undesirable circumstances has brought me to a point where I am not only proud of the person I am becoming, but it has also made me realise my potential.
Pros: great opportunity for development
Cons: long working hours

Working for SARS
A typical work day is to review and evaluate refunds and possible non compliance of clients tax affairs. I have a good relationship with my co-workers and since most of us have been working together for more than five years we feel more like family. I learnt that you should be open minded, passionate, and willing to go the extra mile. I've learnt to be a better person and to be patient. I enjoy working with numbers and investigation of possible non compliance and fraud. the most challenging aspect is resources since there is so many taxpayers out there and we don not have the capacity to deal with all the possible fraud and non compliance.
Pros: I enjoy working with people and to share knowledge and experience. i like to learn new things and chalenges. I'm a positve person, team player, hard worker and fast learner.
Cons: I work normal working hours from 7 - 15.45 and then do my volunteer work at leats a hour a day.

My typical day and the organisation that i work for.
I work in a highly structured, hierarchical environment where I am governed by standard operating procedures. The organisation is highly organised in terms of systems, policies and procedures that must be adhered to. However, I am involved on a daily basis in the writing of business cases to ensure that certain solutions within the business materialise. I consider myself to be professional and have good professional relationships.
Pros: I get the job done irrespective, I have good professional relationships with my stakeholders.
Cons: Working weekends

With the experience that I have from SARS I believe I will be able to make an immediate contribution to the Competition Commission. I am a Compliance and Risk Analyst graduate trainee at South African Revenue Services (SARS) head office in Brooklyn. I have honours in economics from University of Limpopo. My responsibility at work is to receive allegations of the reported non-compliance to tax laws, identify the risks from individuals and/or companies of non-compliance to Income Tax Act, Customs and Excise Act and Tax administration Act. Evaluate those risks based on the reported non-compliance to tax laws and then make recommendations.
Pros: working with all tax types
Cons: Might end up in the court of law to testify against the taxpayer

Excellent learning curve
1. My typical work day: During a typical work week, one of my biggest tasks is checking in on my staff and assessing progress on various projects. I like to meet first thing on Mondays to discuss our priorities for the week, then meet again in the middle of the week to check progress, and once at the end of the week to discuss goal setting for the next week. 2. My relationship with co-workers: I had an excellent professional relationship with my co workers, which gelled quite nicely with the company environment. People assisted one another. We worked as a team to solve problems and learned new skills to reach our team objectives. 3. The most challenging aspects of the job: One of my big challenges will be adjusting to the new workflow and creating a new type of report to present to clients. My plan would be to ask a lot of questions when preparing my first report. I'll also ask a colleague to review the report before sharing it with the client.
Pros: Great oppotunity to learn, grow and add value in the organisation
Cons: always wanting to do more than required

Typical government department, the people are good. Structure and fairness is problematic. Also transparency is an issue that troubles most employees. There's less perks for working there since its a government institution.
Pros: Closer to my house
Cons: No promotions

Excellent Character builder
i learned a lot of stuff and acquired a variety of skills. I was given the opportunity to work in different divisions within the organisation. I learned about the importation and exportation of goods while working at customs at the border post and at the airports. I had opportunities to run projects in any division i worked at, Customs, Aircraft regulation, Audit, Talent Management, Psychometric assessment, and many more. I worked closely with Senior Managers, Legal Advisers, Executives, Group Executives and Chief officers. This is how a acquired some of the valuable skills i now possess. There is a lot of support systems for employees who would love to further their studies. SARS has its own Learning Academy/University. We call it the SARS Institute of Learning. I excelled and my achievements were recognized in a satisfying and fair manner.
Pros: great opportunity for academic development
Cons: no promotions
