Very Good training
It's been a great training and a very challenging environment, the work environment is quite exceptional everyone is welcoming and willing to guide and assist. I've learnt a lot from just basic electricity to handling and operating HV current, from testing to connecting new customers, new transformers and substation maintenance and inspection, it has been a great learning curve but what I've enjoyed the most is the joy we brought to customers especially new customers to the network. The challenge would be the different types of personalities of customers we worked with in farms and the location especially when we have to cut off their power, they often threaten us with guns and African magic should we switch them off, that's why in some cases we are escorted by authorities, but either than that it's all good.
Pros: Good exposure to HV current
Cons: Company crisis

Excellent opportunity for growth
There is so much support for individuals who want to grow. I. E secondments are very possible and regular. Black woman empowerment. The company supports black woman manager and develop individuals as such. The company is so big I learn something new literally every day. I am in project execution and integration is key as we are one big supply chain. We rely on one on other for progress theforw support is incredibly there, from planning to design to execution. I have leaned, hard work, how to think strategically, coordination, integrated risk management, team work. What is challenging about the job is the ever changing demands by external stakeholders.
Pros: Great oppounity for growth and transfer from one town to the other
Cons: Long working hours

My work at Eskom.
My typical work day involves liaising with the team that I manage as well as customers. My customers are all internal to Eskom. These include the department and the divisional heads, division finance manegers, corporate finance etc. I have to maintain healthy relationships with everyone as a business partner. I also attend a number of meetings. I have learned that in order to provide good service I must understand the customer needs and they must also understand my parameters. I enjoy providing the necessary analysis to the business. The challenge now is the cashflow management and controlling costs.
Pros: Working with people who want to see changes.
Cons: Cash flow constraints.

I've leant a lot, installing meters, planting poles, fault finding
It's nice working here as the only female amongst guys, we get along so well I even climb 14m poles with them with no fear, the only challenge I've got is being away from home and not seeing your kid and prepare him for school, only see him on weekends only and the other thing being an Artisan that is earning less than 10000 a month
Pros: It will be great to get an Electrician job
Cons: Long working hours

Excellent
Good company to work. Eskom still has market related salaries, great and competitive benefits. It is very difficult for other companies to top Eskom salary and benefits even if the post is higher than that occupied at Eskom.
Pros: Great benefits.
Cons: No growth opportunities currently

A good Engineering base
Working as a civil system engineer has allowed me to learn from multiple people and engineering disciplines. This has given me a platform to tackle various civil engineering divisions as part of my learning program and how those divisions help towards the production of electricity at a power station.
Pros: Great room to learn diverse disciplines
Cons: No design related work done
