Pick N Pay Reviews

Excellent place to start your career

Great values are obtained here. You learn that your customer is always queen, because the customer is the most important part of the business, therefore needed to be treated accordingly. I have learned to multitask and work in any department of the store as learning is not limited.

Pros: A place where growth in arms reach
Cons: Long working hours

Enjoy challenging myself

Day usually starts at 7 and ends at 4. First thing I do in mornings is to check orders going into stores 2 days from today, engage different stakeholders such as the category planners as well as DC personel. Everyone knows me by name, and I prefer talking through a call as that is fast and gets straight to the point. I always look for additional work to do, or how can I help the other person next to me. I enjoy the fact that there is no micro management, you do what you have to do in order to meeting your daily and weekly deliverables. Challenging because information isnt always easy to get as well as we find ourselves working long hours on days where we must sort out certain issues as well as during peak

Pros: Great place to kick off one's carrer
Cons: Growth has staggnated

Great skills development

As the first company i have worked for, i have grasped a lot of workplace experience. Your able to further your academic studies with the support of the company. You get overall exposure to the supply chain of retail as well as high level decision making and strategic planning of the business.

Pros: Great exposure to retail operations.
Cons: compensation is low

Retail is an exciting challenge and I love it.

I love people , I love a challenge. Working in the retail industry is not easy, meeting hundreds of different people in a day with different moods, different attitudes and different cultures. It has taught me how to handle people of different characters. I know when to apologize, when to be patient, how to be kind and how to please customers. Working with money on the other hand is not easy, balancing the office is not easy either. It requires carefulness and focus. Dealing with peoples money(cashiers) and the bank has taught me honesty at all times. I've gain a lot of ethnicity, learnt how to handle staff and how to keep organized at all times. Communicating telephonically with customers and following up with their queries can be a bit challenging, but I always want to fully satisfy the customer with the service required. Retail was a very good start for me, it is the most challenging working atmosphere but I love it.

Pros: From Cashier, to Cash office operator to bookkeeper assistant
Cons: 10 hours tops 9am - 8pm ,

Was very good and an important learning curve

It was a pleasure working at picknpay as it was a big company with many co-workers. I enjoyed working with different people of different ages . Mostly I enjoyed working with customers of different cultures and religions as they had different needs and expectations which were to be met. Growth was not much to us as mechendisors as we had different positions to fill out of stuff shortages, the experience was more of pushing yourself as an individual to learn different positions.

Pros: Less opportunity more experience
Cons: Long working hours even overtime schedule
