I work in line with the operating and maintenance department. This task has taught me so much about working with other people and other departments, and how engineering relates to these other departments

Took company from good to great
It was challenging a lot since we were interfacing with different kinds of customers for different queries. I had a good relationship with my co-workers as i was their leader they wish me to come back. I learnt to be disciplined, focus and be detailed. I enjoyed solving employee and customer problems. The challenging part of my job was when i failed to help my customer due to company policy which i could not change.
Pros: I was taught to be a self starter and be innovative
Cons: I enjoyed to assist a customer even after hours without overtime payment

Great company to work for with excellent work ethic and culture
Eskom is a good company, the culture here encourages growth. There is great opportunities for development and learning - the Bursaries available to all employees. The reporting structures at this company allow a culture of fairness and respect. My typical day starts with planning my activities for the day and who I must interact with. I then would respond to requests, queries and requests from my colleagues and make a few calls. From time to time a day includes meeting attendance. My co-workers are excellent with a very close relationship with them. They are very skilled and educated. We manage to have many valuable discussions about work and solutions to some of the challenges we face. The most enjoyable aspect of my work is interacting with my counterparts in the other country and sharing ideas and progressing the project. The most challenging aspects of the job is being able to determine the correct approach to building a business case that will bring the project to feasibility.
Pros: Great projects to embark on for SADC
Cons: Red tape of approvals

My duties at Eskom
I often work with sampling, sample analysis using instruments, calibration of these instruments and also maintenance. My co-workers and I believe in team work. When someone is over worked or when someone requires assistance in anything, we always help each other. That is the reason why even though my job is to be a chemistry technician, I will occasionally join engineers in plant inspection and maintenance. I have learnt a lot in my job things like sampling, sample analysis, sample preparation, LIMS capture, fixing and maintenance of laboratory instruments, water purification and also how to do plant inspection. There is nothing I enjoy most with my job than laboratory instrument repairs. Analysis are great but when it comes to fixing of laboratory instruments, that is where I excel and I would like nothing more than getting an opportunity to work with something I enjoy. it won't even feel like working.
Pros: helps with knowledge and skills in multi tasking
Cons: more things to do than you can handle
