From being a System Engineer to becoming a Tribologist

Before working for Eskom, I was a student assistant and finally a part time lecturer at Central University of Technology hence I believe in focusing on every little detail of every task I do. At Eskom, I managed to easy moving over from a System Engineer position to become a Tribologist. As Tribologist, I used to do plant walks to ensure that all the lubrication systems ( are oil purification system) working properly and any failure, I do root cause analysis (which I enjoyed the most) and action thise responsible i.e. from the System Engineer (plant custodian) to maintenance department for plant rectification. This position made me to learn more about the entire Kriel Power Station ( as lubrication is everywhere) and gained respect ftom my co-workers. Tge most challenging aspect(s) was when other co-workers not playing their part and not getting support ftom my line manager hence I resorted to grievances for plant negligence.

Pros: Great and plenty promotion opportunities but are not recognised. More to learn as the Station very old and most information, so one needs to fo more research to get accurate information about that particular system you are working on.
Cons: No proper filing of important plant information. Management tolerate poor performance and reward it.

Good organisation to work for

Aaa typical day at Eskom, we arrive, eat breakfast and start with our responsibilities for the day. I have a good relationship with my co workers. I have learnt that for employees to perform optimally you have to app reward them.. our Managers uses an.open door policy its challenging when there are no.promotions and increments, and when employees do not want to do ethics training cause they feel are not necessary. Eskom pride themselves in developing its employees as they have bursaries for those who want to study further. Employees are given an opportunity to grow

Pros: Great studying opportunities
Cons: To many grades before getting to Senior positions

Self-motivated electrical engineering technician with a national diploma

I am always looking for my colleagues to tell me things they would like to pursue within the company. By suggesting a project they would like to lead, it shows me their continued interest in the company. I feel confident that if it’s a project they are suggesting, then we will excel at it.A review is a perfect one-on-one opportunity to really talk about your goals, your future, and also the future and state of the company itself. During review season, when I’m taking a big picture perspective and examining the components of a company as parts and as a whole, every employee adds value and can contribute a different perspective to the conversation.

Pros: I DO HAVE GOOD EXPERIENCE IN TELECONTROL SYSTEMS
Cons: 16
