Excellent learningcurve

The company is great but i feel i am not being paid according to my skill. I have good relationship with my colleagues . I don't like having to help my seniors with work while i am earning way less than them.

Pros: No opportunity for promotion
Cons: helping people that are supposed to be supervising me

Good working environment

If you want job security and to further your studies.this is a great company to work for.Growth opportunities are however limited. If you eat to study, they do pay for you andif you put your mind to it,you can become anything. Even though growth opportunities are limited,it's still a great company to work for.

Pros: Job Security
Cons: Limited opportunities

Excellent Learning Curve

Without the current challenges that the organization is facing, this a good company and department (Group Legal and Compliance) to work for as each day you come across new and interesting challenge and get to learn more about the Eskom business. It has been an excellent learning curve over the 4 years though there has been a lot of changes to Executive team and senior management causing frustrations and instability in the organization. The morale is unfortunately very low and has been for some time. I enjoy working as a team and learning from many people that have been in the organization for many years. I have a good relationship with my co-workers but find it challenging to work in the current environment with a lot of uncertainty and very low staff morale across the business. In my 4 years here, there have been 4 Chief Executives and Chief Financial Officers which has contributed to the current state of the organization.

Pros: Great opportunity for learning different and complex facets of the business.
Cons: Instability in the company

Great learning curve

Currently my day starts off with meetings, a daily toolbox talk (where a safety, health, environmental or quality topic is discussed) and a production meeting (where the previous day planned activities are reviewed). There is normally constant communication with the entire SHEQ team, specifically within the Region, support is provided where necessary and engagements with line management is ongoing. My learnings within the current position is to appreciate the fact that as an individual you can never know everything, that it important to work as a team and appreciate each other’s strengths and weaknesses in order to grow together

Pros: Great opportunity to grow professionally
Cons: Working under extreme Pressure

Excellent learning curve

my work is basically to inspect, maintain any electrical apparatus in the electric field i.e Circuit breakers, isolators transformers, reclosers etc. To attend to faults, fault finding, electrical wiring, electric motor starters single phase and three phase motors, to use different tools (power and hand tools) used in electrical field. the most challenge sometimes its time; for an example how much hours you take to reach the fault area.

Pros: 8hours per day every 5days of the week
Cons: 8 hours per day

Average learning

The learning experience at ESKOM is good because as you get to learn from the employee, they are also willing to help. The benefits include training because the training anf certificates that are obtained are not only for ESKOM but also for other companies in case you leave ESKOM while the certificates are still valid.

Pros: Compliance with the country's constitutional laws or acts
Cons: Current fnancial state of the company

Understanding the impact of illegal connections in the company

The challenges that the site workers enhance with our customers sometimes create conflict within us as employees but I have learnt to understand the frustration they experience on site sometimes customers not co-operating and on our side we need accurate information based on customer accounts. I really enjoy to know that my reports are done accurately, customers not being estimated on their invoices and issue them on time and the positive impact this would have on company revenue. Illegal connections are one of the challenging circumstances in a company as a whole because we do not get to bill all customers that are consuming Eskom electricity and sometimes when those situations are discovered its create too much work load as I will have to investigate and bill that customer for all the years of illegal connection.

Pros: I started as a principal clerk and after 3 years i applied for a post and was promoted to Assistant officer revenue services/billing
Cons: I do not have long working hours in the current company but if there is a need for me to complete a certain task I do work long hours
