Eskom Reviews

Excellent

Good company to work. Eskom still has market related salaries, great and competitive benefits. It is very difficult for other companies to top Eskom salary and benefits even if the post is higher than that occupied at Eskom.

Pros: Great benefits.
Cons: No growth opportunities currently

Excellent track record as HR Professional

I have been working as HR profession in a big unionized environment for a long time . I have also come through the ranks to reach a executive level . I was also awarded as the HR Manager of the year. I am a change management expert as I have been through and driven so many changes in my career. I have a very good track record of successfully driving transformation since 1994, a very historic year in SA. I am interacting from lowest to highest level in the organization. I have passion for development of motivated , CUSTOMER centric HR teams with excellent turn around time. this is achieved through capacity which I believe is at the core of what we do. I fully understand the political environment as well as I am networking a great deal with people of influence. I am a member of various bodies like IPM and deputy chair of Progressive ProfessionaL Forum

Pros: Eskom is one of the biggest company with established systems and processes
Cons: As state owned company , there is too much political infuence and red tape

Introduction to Engineering

I am currently unemployed (contract expiry) but working at Eskom was exciting and interesting. I learnt a lot in terms of professionalism and work ethic. However, civil work at Eskom was limited and can become frustrating for the person looking to grow and excel in his/her field.

Pros: Large company
Cons: Limited for civil engineering

Young professional

Good day, My name is Maame Tabiri, I am an electrical engineer currently working at Eskom Distribution as a network development planner. The job description aligns directly to what I am currently doing at Eskom so I am already well acquainted with the industry and technical understanding of HV/MV Distribution Engineering. I graduated in 2014 from UCT and completed Eskom’s engineer in training grad programme in 2016. While I am not a graduate there is still a lot to learn. I am already a young professional in the industry but would still like to be considered for a position at this company as I feel it is time for me to move on from Polokwane. Kind regards, Maame

Pros: Niche industry and knowledge
Cons: Repetitive work

I have learned alot and managed to pass my trade test

Eskom is a bug company where production is a priority and you are expected to make sure the plant runs well without any repeating of jobs due to wrong way of doing things, everyone knows their objectives therefore no one is supposed to be reminded to checj or do inspections in their respective plant, when there is measure outages we all are expected to work day and night and to assure our superior that time set will be meet.i have learnt to worker under different leaders witb different approaches.

Pros: None at this point
Cons: 120 hours
