I manage a programme comprising complex technical projects on a power plant.

• I earned respect from my colleagues because of being knowledgeable in my area of responsibility • I enjoy working in a dynamic environment • Managing projects in a power station comes with huge challenges especially during this time of power crisis • My relationship with co-workers is cordial because I play the ball not the man • I have learnt that no matter how educated and good you are, sometimes you will need a team to succeed

Pros: Great opportunity for growth
Cons: Working under pressure

It is a great learning experience

The working environment is welcoming and one can fairly maneuver. On a typical work day it is better explained in a weekly period. I go to a particular department in the company, I normally ask for a project they are busy with and battle with it for a week until I find a solution or I go around asking for information, or follow set standards to come up with a solution for the problem. Some days you could sit around with no work to do, the asking for information gives one a chance to communicate with other employees. I have learnt how to get solutions to electrical problems and how to deal with human stumbling blocks. I enjoy the challenges that come with the work descriptions. The difficulties that come with the job is having to learn every single department within the company when moving from one department to another.

Pros: One can learn a lot of things within the company
Cons: The environment at the moment is not motivating due to the financial difficulties being experienced

Growth

I work in a power plant, we generate electricity. My typical day to day job and dress code are not formal is strictly hard hat, safety boots and reflector jacket and trouser. Above all I still do administrative work of compiling procedures and policies with the power station. The most challenging part of my day to day to work is that I stay in Pretoria and travel to Komati power station daily I have been doing this for 7 years and 8 months this shows my loyalty at work and also the willingness to travel. My work starts at 7:15 where I should have the presentations for the services providers ready by 7:30 and I knock off 4:30 travel back to Pretoria. with that being said I enjoy working with people from all levels , from the general manager to the cleaner as I have to also give training on the environmental awareness's.

Pros: Exposure to latest information about environmental discipline
Cons: Travelling from Pretoria to Middelburg daily
